Sorius Samura

In 1999 Sorious Samura won two international awards for his journalism: the Rory Peck Award and the Mohamed Amin Award. He thus became the first person ever to win both.

In 2000 he was one of the winners (Individual Categories) of the 1999 CNN African Journalist of the Year Award at the CNN African Journalist of the Year Awards in South Africa.



The Rory Peck Award

The Rory Peck Trust is dedicated to supporting and celebrating the work of freelance camera people around the world. The Rory Peck award is presented annually to the camera person judged to have produced the most outstanding piece of work during the last year.


The Mohamed Amin Award
The Mohamed Amin award was established in 1997 to honour the work of the late Mohamed Amin in bringing news pictures to the world and to reward any individual or company for their achievement in news-gathering.


1999 CNN African Journalist of the Year Awards
The winners of the fifth CNN African Journalist of the Year Competition were announced at a gala Awards Ceremony held in Johannesburg on March 23rd, 2000. The event was held in partnership with the SABC and sponsored by a number of leading Pan-African companies, including South African Airways and The Westcliff Hotel. The competition received a record 1158 entries from 21 African nations.
